Gary Ritter is a Professor and Dean of the School of Education at Saint Louis University. Since taking this role in 2018, Ritter has focused on growing programs that are evidence-based, academically rigorous, and of direct service the St. Louis region. Prior to joining SLU, Ritter was a faculty member at the University of Arkansas since 2000 and holder of the Endowed Chair in Education Policy since 2005. Ritter focuses on disseminating research evidence to policymakers, school leaders, and other interested constituents in accessible formats; toward this end, he founded Education Policy Research Centers at both institutions. His primary areas of study are teacher quality, teacher evaluation, postsecondary access for low-income students, and the implementation and evaluation of programs aimed at improving educational outcomes for marginalized students. Ritter’s work has been published in the Review of Educational Research, Educational Researcher, Education Finance & Policy, Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, AERA Open, Educational Policy, Education Policy Analysis Archives, Education and Urban Society, Journal of Education Finance, Journal of School Choice, Education Next, and Phi Delta Kappan.
