Taking the next step
In the 18 months since Deans for Impact launched as an organization, we’ve covered a lot of ground. We’ve held three major convenings with our member deans and other supporters. We released a publication on The Science of Learning that continues to spur conversation across the field. We took a hard look at how we were collecting and using data within our own programs, which led to a policy brief that made the case for improving access to data for educator-preparation programs and recognizing programs that commit to preparing educators who are demonstrably effective. A subset of our member-led programs came together as the Design for Practice Network, which has spent the past year working on how to better embed cognitive-science principles within their programs.
As our work has grown and evolved, it’s fitting that our membership has as well. Today, we are thrilled to announce the next step in our growth as an organization with the addition of two new member deans.
- Patricia Alvarez McHatton, dean, College of Education and P-16 Integration, The University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley
- Jennifer Green, CEO and co-founder, Urban Teachers
Both Patricia and Jennifer are deeply committed to Deans for Impact’s guiding principles – and they bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experiences that will continue to expand and improve the organization’s insight into the entirefield of educator preparation. In addition to their deep experience in educator preparation, both Patricia and Jennifer have taught at the K-12 level, which gives them a perspective on the entire trajectory a teacher follows, from preparation to the classroom.
We’ll be back in the coming weeks with Q & As from both Patricia and Jennifer, so stay tuned to learn more about their backgrounds, the moments that have shaped their approach to educator preparation, and more.
